Shoemaker breaks ground for Norristown Mixed Use Parking Garage
WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA, JULY 2007 — Shoemaker Construction Co. has been awarded an $11,410,000 construction contract to build the Norristown Mixed Use Parking Garage at Main and Cherry Streets in Norristown, PA.
A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 12 noon on Thursday, July 19, 2007. Expected to speak at the ceremony are Governor Edward G. Rendell and Senator Constance Williams. Officials from the Montgomery County Commissioners, the Redevelopment Authority of the County of Montgomery, and the Municipality of Norristown will also be in attendance.
The garage, designed by Timothy Haahs & Associates, Inc. of Blue Bell, will be constructed of precast concrete with a thin brick façade. When complete, it will provide parking for 483 cars on four levels. Vehicles will enter on Main Street and exit on Cherry Street. The design also includes 4,000 square feet of retail space along Main and Cherry Streets. The total building area is 177,600 square feet.
The project is a joint partnership of the County of Montgomery, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Municipality of Norristown, the Federal Highway Administration, and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Financial assistance has been provided by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the County of Montgomery. The garage is being developed by the Redevelopment Authority of Montgomery County in cooperation with the Municipality of Norristown.
Groundbreaking festivities will take place under a tent provided by Norris Sales of Plymouth Meeting. Arrangements include 18 American-made steel shovels from Zummo’s Hardware in Norristown. Signs were fabricated by Sign Source of Audubon and FastSigns of Conshohocken. Photography will be provided by Jack Coll of Conshohocken.
