Shoemaker completes construction of new lifestyle center at Lehigh Valley Mall

WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA, OCTOBER 2007 — Shoemaker Construction Co. announces the completion of the expansion and renovations at Lehigh Valley Mall. Work involved construction of a new 120,500 square foot lifestyle shopping center and interior modifications and upgrades to the existing 1,000,000 square foot facility

For the Shops at Lehigh Valley Mall, Shoemaker constructed a single-story addition attached to the mall and four free standing, single-story steel-framed buildings along a new pedestrian arcade. The retail destination features a 13,000 square foot Pottery Barn, a 6,500 square foot Williams Sonoma, three restaurants, and 15 other tenant spaces. Shoemaker’s team worked closely with the owner and the architect to accommo¬date design modifications and maintain a tight construction schedule as additional tenants were signed.

The highlight of the mall renovations is the new 40 foot by 60 foot skylight at center court. Additional interior work included lighting improvements, new escalators, upgraded entranceways, and updated restrooms. Shoemaker maintained full access to the existing shopping corridors, service courts, and loading docks during the work. In addition, Shoemaker’s team developed a customized, on-site safety strategy to ensure safe pedestrian and vehicular traffic flow around construction zones.

Site activities began in June 2006. Grand opening festivities will take place October 26-28, 2007.

The project was completed with a joint team of Shoemaker and Butz personnel. This effort represents the collaborative partnership that exists between the sister companies, drawing team members from both companies to match the skill set required to best meet the needs of the Owner.

The mall is owned by Simon Property Group of Indianapolis, Indiana, and managed by Kravco Simon of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. spg3 Architects of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania led the design team.
