Shoemaker/Synterra, a JV Awarded the Philadelphia Housing Authority Headquarters Project

Philadelphia, PA, November 10, 2016 . . . The joint venture of Shoemaker Construction Co. and Synterra, Ltd., was recently awarded the design and construction of the Philadelphia Housing Authority's (PHA) new Headquarters at Ridge Avenue in Philadelphia, PA.

PHA will consolidate its offices into one central Headquarters facility bringing all public and administrative functions together in a Class A office building. A division of the Philadelphia Police force will also occupy space in the building.

The PHA Headquarters will be located at Ridge and Jefferson Streets in Philadelphia, and will feature a 136,000 square foot, five-story office building and adjacent surface parking lot. The building will be clad in glass and stone with three exterior, open plaza areas. The project is designed for LEED® certification.

Also included in the project will be the demolition and site preparation of the block to the north of Jefferson for future development including retail, parking and housing.

"This is the next important step in the Sharswood/Blumberg transformation," said PHA President and CEO Kelvin A. Jeremiah. "The change in zoning, from various zoning designations to a singular focus designation, will provide for mixed-use development and allow PHA to be an economic anchor in the Sharswood community. PHA looks forward to other businesses joining us along the Ridge Avenue corridor to bring the amenities that every community wants and deserves."

Features of the building include:

  • 500 seat Multipurpose Room
  • Executive suite
  • Conference and storage areas
  • Partial retail space on 1st floor
  • Cafeteria
  • Fitness Center
  • 15' ceilings in the entrance lobby

"Synterra, Ltd. is proud to be one of the firms entrusted to bring a portion of this neighborhood transformation development to fruition," said Myrna Toro, President of Synterra, Ltd.

BLT Architects has been engaged to complete the design.

"Shoemaker is excited to play a part in the revitalization of the Blumberg/Sharswood area by transforming an empty block into a vibrant and pedestrian-friendly Headquarters for PHA," said Maura Hesdon, General Manager for Shoemaker Construction Co.
