Management Team

John K. Ball

John Ball is president of Shoemaker Construction Co. and has served in this capacity for the past 17 years. Prior to this role, he served in a variety of positions, including vice president of preconstruction, project executive, project manager, and engineer. He has been with the company since 1980.

An active member of several civic groups and construction industry organizations, John is involved in all aspects of building communities, both literally and figuratively. He currently serves on the boards of directors for the General Building Contractors Association, The Reinvestment Fund, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, and the MidAtlantic Employers’ Association. In addition, he is a council member for the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. John formerly chaired the Business Advisory Council for the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia and served as a trustee of the Carpenters' Company of the City and County of Philadelphia.

John is a graduate of Duke University with a bachelor of arts in economics, and has completed the Advanced Management Program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Greg L. Butz

Greg Butz became president of Alvin H. Butz, Inc. in 1995, and CEO of Shoemaker Construction Co. in 2003. His career in the construction industry began when his grandfather and company founder still helmed the firm. Greg previously served as construction laborer, assistant field superintendent, project manager, senior project manager, and vice president. A native of Allentown, Pennsylvania, Greg holds both a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering and an MBA from Lehigh University.

Roger S. Ball

Roger Ball joined Shoemaker in 1990. As vice president, he takes a hands-on leadership roll in projects the firm undertakes, from preconstruction planning to system validation and closeout. With additional background in property development and management, Roger possesses a unique understanding of the building process, from the early stages of conceptual planning to final occupancy by user groups. Roger has a bachelor of science degree in psychology from Bucknell University and earned his MBA at Cornell.

David R. Strange

Dave Strange has served as Shoemaker’s vice president of business development since 1992. He sits on the board of the Montgomery County Industrial Development Corporation. He also is an active member of several industry-related organizations, including the International Council of Shopping Centers, American Society for Healthcare Engineering, and Society for College and University Planning. Dave holds a bachelor of science degree in Business Administration from the University of Delaware and achieved Journeyman status with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 98.

Michael G. Lese

Mike Lese came to Shoemaker in 1995 already possessing more than two decades of experience estimating major building programs throughout the mid-Atlantic states. As manager of preconstruction, he oversees a team of estimators and systems specialists who collectively estimate more than $500 million in construction on an annual basis. Mike has a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Drexel University. He is both a member and past officer of the American Society of Professional Estimators, and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

John D. Selkirk

As Shoemaker’s safety and health director, John Selkirk embodies the company’s number one core value: Safety First.

John has nearly two decades of experience in the planning, implementation, and coordination of safety, health, and accident prevention activities on all types of building programs. He works closely with owners and Shoemaker’s project management teams to design comprehensive, project-specific safety/loss prevention programs on all of our construction projects. He maintains our corporate Safety/Loss Control and Crisis Management manuals and leads on-site safety training sessions. With a thorough understanding of federal, state, and local regulations, he identifies and corrects potentially hazardous working conditions and also accompanies all safety, health, and insurance inspections. John holds a bachelor of science in safety science from Indiana University and has completed specialized training programs recognized by OSHA, the Red Cross, and the American Society of Safety Engineers.

Christina J. Lennox

Chris Lennox is Shoemaker’s human resources manager, and oversees the company’s benefits and retention programs. She is responsible for recruiting, orientation, and employee relations. She also serves as liaison for medical insurance claims, construction insurance / risk management programs, and workers compensation cases. A certified Professional in Human Resources, Chris holds an associates degree in business administration from the Pennsylvania Business Institute and has completed additional coursework at Pennsylvania State University and the MidAtlantic Employers’ Association.
