The Butz Family of Companies Hires Virtual Construction Coordinator / Project Engineer

The Butz Family of Companies, consisting of Alvin H. Butz, Inc., Alexander Building Construction Co. and Shoemaker Construction Co., has hired Daniel Weiger as a Virtual Construction Coordinator and Project Engineer. In his role as Virtual Construction Coordinator, Weiger will train and educate employees of The Butz Family of Companies on the emerging trends and management techniques associated with Project Level Building Information Modeling (BIM). As Project Engineer, Weiger is responsible for checking, tracking and monitoring shop drawings and submittals, tracking RFI's, updating construction schedules and facilitating trade contractor coordination meetings. Butz Family of Companies' Employee Recognized by ENR Mid-Atlantic as Top 20 Under 40 for 2013

The Butz Family of Companies, consisting of Alvin H. Butz, Inc., Alexander Building Construction Co. and Shoemaker Construction Co., announces the recent recognition of Christopher Magent, PhD, LEED AP, as one of the region's "Top 20 Under 40" for 2013 by Engineering News-Record (ENR) Mid-Atlantic.

ENR's competition recognizes young construction professionals who represent the "Best-of-the-Best" in their industry and who have made a positive impact exhibiting such qualities as leadership, career progress and community involvement.

Magent currently serves as Business Development and Strategic Initiatives Director for The Butz Family of Companies as well as General Manager of Alexander Building Construction Co.'s State College office.

Shoemaker/Perryman Completes LEAP Academy STEM School

Shoemaker Construction Co., in a joint venture with Perryman Building and Construction Services, Inc., recently completed the LEAP (Leadership, Education, and Partnership) Academy STEM Campus Addition in Camden, NJ. The specialized STEM High School program focuses on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Shoemaker Construction Co. Announces New Hire

Shoemaker Construction Co. recently hired Matt Madeira as a Project Manager for the company. Madeira will oversee and manage all phases of a construction project from preconstruction to completion including the development of a project schedule, construction plan, and project phasing. During construction, Matt is responsible for managing and directing the work of the specialty contractors and personnel. He utilizes cost control, scheduling, and material and equipment delivery control systems to plan and manage construction projects and ensure their delivery on time and under budget. Shoemaker/Perryman to Build 683-Space Parking Garage at Philadelphia Zoo

The Centennial District Intermodal Transportation Center Project is underway with a joint venture between area companies to construct the much-anticipated parking garage.

The Philadelphia Zoo announced that Shoemaker/ Perryman, a Joint Venture will build the much-anticipated parking garage to be completed inspring 2013. The garage is part of the Centennial District Intermodal Transportation Center which will increase parking capacity and improve traffic, safety, stormwater management and aesthetics in the area. Shoemaker Construction Co. Awarded Renovation at Amtrak's 30th Street Station

Shoemaker Construction Co., a member of the Butz Family of Companies, has been selected to renovate the West Plaza and Parking Deck at Amtrak's 30th Street Station. Features of this project include demolition, waterproofing, structural repairs and replacement and painting of exposed steel structure.

Shoemaker/Synterra Completes Norris Apartments Construction

Shoemaker Synterra J.V. recently completed the new Norris Apartments located in North Philadelphia. In a Joint Venture, Shoemaker Construction Co. and Synterra Ltd. worked with the Philadelphia Housing Authority in redeveloping the Norris Apartments building site into an environmentally-friendly, rental community.

"I am extremely proud of the dedication and attention to detail our skilled project team put into making this redevelopment a success," says Roger Ball, President of Shoemaker Construction Co.

The newly constructed building includes 51 walk-ups and townhomes consisting of 14 one-bedroom units, 23 two-bedroom units and 14 three-bedroom units. For the convenience of its occupants, the building also includes a management office and laundry. Read the full press release.

Shoemaker Announces John Miner Completes Supervisory Training Program

Shoemaker Construction Co. announces John Miner has completed the Supervisory Training Program (STP) offered jointly by the Carpenters and the General Building Contractors Association (GBCA)/Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). GBCA is the Philadelphia chapter of the AGC headquartered in Arlington, VA.

Miner is a Superintendent for Shoemaker with 16 years of progressive construction experience. He is responsible for directing the foremen and field operations of the various specialty contractors on the site. His duties include quality control, coordination of job site construction activities, interfacing with the site facilities personnel, coordination with the Owner's vendors, daily inspections, and adherence to project schedules.

National Association of Women in Construction Region 1 Forum to be Hosted in Philadelphia

Maura Hesdon, Regional Director of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), Region 1, and a Senior Project Manager with Shoemaker Construction Co. will host the 52nd Annual Regional Forum April 27-28, 2012 in the Loews Philadelphia Hotel.

The Region 1 Forum is held twice a year in various locations across the Region 1 coverage area including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, New York, Connecticut and Washington DC. The April Forum, titled "Declare your Independence!" will feature educational sessions on topics ranging from Managing the Generation Gap and Dealing with Contract language across state borders to Strategic and Succession Planning. An update on the MAGIC camp program will also be given. MAGIC (Mentoring a Girl In Construction) Camp is a free, week-long day camp for junior and senior high school girls to introduce them to a potential career in the construction industry. Many young girls are unaware of the possibility of a rewarding and financially beneficial career in the construction trades or related fields.
